The Cusp-model of attitude change

A Cusp-catastrophe model showing that an individual's higher involvement in a subject can lead to phase transitions in their attitude on the subject. A high involvement will lead to a stable state on either end of the spectrum of the subject in question, with a hysteresis effect preventing changes in attitude when confronted with new information. That is, until enough information pressure is applied and a sudden transition from attitude to attitude can be observed. Lower involvement in the subject will not show these transitions, but rather a smoother change in attitudes when confronted with new information.
